This is Me
Growing up in the Florida Panhandle, Jimmy Buffett was my first favorite storyteller. Listening to his music—I’m not talking about Margaritaville—in my dad’s truck on the way to and from his beach shack every weekend with my dog is very likely where my love for story was born.
Currently, I live in Georgia and spend my days shuffling my four kids from school to Juggling Club–yes, that’s a thing–soccer, NeuroClub and beyond while forgetting I signed up to be snack mom. I try my best to fill our stomachs with healthy, organic, heavy on the veg meals–and just as often resort to eating Spaghettios cold out of the can.
I mess up often, usually remember to apologize, and try again. I consider myself deeply flawed (but in the best way?), and have more than a little in common with the characters I write.
In my downtime, you’ll find me in my vegetable garden, carefully tying up tomatoes and cutting back peppers to get a second flush. Except, not really. My garden is a metaphor for my life–I begin with the best of intentions in late winter, starting seeds and plotting the perfect spot for each plant to receive adequate sunlight and grow with good companions. Then I toss it all in and by fall, it’s a wild sprawling mess, spilling over the sides, climbing over the azaleas and boxwoods, feeding the deer and chipmunks and my family in equal parts. Sometimes I just look at it… and then remind myself I’m a writer and go back inside.
I could not function without my Tuesday morning Zumba class (we even have a book club). I also love paddle boarding, tubing, Seabrook Island, and breweries with food trucks, though I really can’t tolerate those high-octane beers.
